Colour Dynamics with Jane Clift

Colour Phenomena
A practical introduction to colour phenomena, colour dynamics and the basics of Goethe’s Theory of Colour. The way we approach colours may determine what they reveal to us. Students will explore the relevance and possibility of objectivity in feeling through their painting and drawing. Different exercises will be given to develop and understanding of how form arises out of colour.
Techniques: wet on wet watercolour painting, coloured pencils and pastels.
The ‘Scale of Darkness’ and Imagination
Imaginative exploration of narrative and image will be developed artistically.
Techniques: wet on wet watercolour painting, coloured pencils and pastels.
Image and Lustre
We find a transition from pure lustre to image colours, explicitly researching the different qualities of what Rudolf Steiner calls the Image Colours. The motifs in our paintings will be the outcome of a colour process.

Exploring the Language of Form in Clay Modelling
Cost: £20 per Tuesday Afternoon Session – MINIMUM FIVE CONSECUTIVE SESSIONS:

To begin to learn the language of form we will explore abstract and non-representational shapes. Simple abstract shapes that appeared at the beginning of modern art may be a pointer to the conscious understanding and experience of the essential laws of form. This is what the early modern sculptures were trying to achieve – something that we believe is still fundamentally essential to learn today.
Technique: Working with clay we will start with a large two dimensional surface to experience the qualities of convex and concave. We will then move onto three dimensional forms in the round and finally work our way towards a chance to experience carving stone.
Light and Darkness Drawing Techniques with Jane Clift
Cost: £20 per Monday Afternoon Session – MINIMUM FIVE CONSECUTIVE SESSIONS:

We will explore different drawing techniques and qualities of light and darkness in nature reflected on objects and expressed imaginatively.
Techniques: Using Conte, graphite and charcoal.
BIOGRAPHY - PLANETS - CAREER with Diane Flowers

The influences of the planets on the phases of life are reflected also in choices of career. Each phase opens up new opportunities. Recognising your life's task as it changes through these phases brings opportunities for development.

The Four Elements and Temperaments with Diane Flowers

We will experience the four Elements of earth, air, fire and water and their connection to Rudolf Steiner’s description of the temperaments (a prevailing or dominant quality of mind that characterises somebody) through movement and painting.
Techniques: Experimental techniques with watercolour and pastels.
History of Art with Richard Heys

The aim of this course is to deepen the understanding of humanity’s developing individual freedom from divine guidance as reflected in art. The course consists of observation, critical description and visual interpretation (in drawing and painting) of art forms from Ancient Egypt until now. We shall explore how the development of art may be seen to mirror the development of human consciousness and the rise of the ‘individual’. Were we different; did we think, feel and create art differently in different eras?
Techniques: Painting, pastels, and charcoal.
Veil Painting with Gillian David

Through the mindfulness technique of veiling (large transparent washes of luminous colour) we can heighten our sensitivity to light, space and colour. The patience and meditative quality of the many veils gradually building creates a holding and breathing space allowing images to evolve.
Techniques: Water colour painting on dry paper.
FORMING FORCES IN YOUR HANDS with Maria Albiez
Cost: £125
Date and Times: 3/4 March 2012 (Sat 9:30-5pm and Sun 9:30-3:30pm)
This workshop will give an experiential introduction to the forces and elements of clay modelling / sculpture. Through a variety of exercises, free work and discussion you may acquire a new sensititity of form through your heart and hands.
Working with Fairy Tales with Jane Clift

Fairy tales speak to us in a language of symbols and images that we can attach meaning to. Teaching us that our inner realities are important and relevant. They are ‘otherworldly’ and leave open doorways into our imagination.
Technique: Using the wet-on-wet technique we will allow images to develop out of the interaction of colour.
THE SLEEPING BEAUTY with Jane Clift

Using this wonderful Fairy Tale to inspire us, we will take a rich and nourishing soul journey into the world of colour and imagination. Using paint and pastels to explore images from this story, we can gain deeper insights into our life processes and awaken our creativity.
Jumping up to the Level of the Heart: Working with Mandalas with John Playfoot

We will explore the theme of transition between our inner and outer worlds. We are working with a variety of mediums and different cultures including Native American art, labyrinths and eastern mandalas. By sharing our experiences we will seek to discover how art can be a pathway to a greater understanding of the world and ourselves. Creative self emerges – not when we arrive, but on the journey.
Techniques: Oil and linseed painting.
Working from Imagination with Margaret Shillan

To awaken in the student the ability to work from their inner imagination, do figure work and to be playful and creative in their use of colour. The course includes working with Poetry and Music.
Techniques: A variety of media including gouache, pastels and working with natural pigments.
Assessment/Introduction To Transpersonal Arts in Therapy Training with Gillian David and Maria Albiez

Students are introduced to the core model of the Transpersonal Arts in Therapy programme and given details on all aspects of the training. This week is thus an opportunity for mutual assessment where applicants can make an informed decision about the training and to be evaluated on their artistic, social and academic abilities. In this intensive week students will work through aspects and processes related to the therapeutic application of painting, drawing and clay modelling, as well as reflective conversation.
Nature Themes with Jane Clift

Nature is full of secrets which can disclose themselves to artistic exploration. Through exploring the natural world students learn to express nature’s hidden gestures through art. Inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s nature sketches student’s learn gesture, movement, colour and mood from natural phenomena.
Techniques: Conte, charcoal, wet-on-wet water colour painting.
Listening to the Song of Nature with Maria Albiez

Nature will be our playground! We will meet nature in a contemplative way and work with the 'here and now'. We will study land and environmental artists such as Andy Goldsworthy, Richard Long, Chris Drury and others.
